Operation Santa Claus is an annual charity campaign jointly organised by South China Morning Post and Radio Television Hong Kong. The campaign seeks to raise funds and awareness for Hong Kong charities over the winter festive season.
The Campaign is a community event, and all through December, corporations, clubs, schools and individual donors will put on a series of creative activities to raise funds for Operation Santa Claus. These activities are publicized extensively through SCMP and Radio 3. They not only highlight the community's sense of sharing and giving, but also contribute much festive fun and laughter to our city.
The Campaign's school component seeks to engender creativity and teamwork among Hong Kong's young people, not only raising funds, but more importantly, inspiring students with a heightened sense of empathy for our society's less fortunate.
From a modest beginning in 1988, when HK$101,000 was raised, the 2006 campaign brought in a record-breaking sum of over HK$16 million—bringing the cumulative funds raised past the HK$100 million mark! Thanks to the Hong Kong Community, so much has and will be achieved by the 27 selected beneficiaries!
